I have described job seeking as your most important full time job. And that is how you need to approach it. Everything you do from research, to planning, to designing a campaign and to closing the deal needs to be handled at the same level you would handle a project for an employer. Because that’s how you are going to get an employer.
What you also need to consider is that you need to treat this the same way an athlete would treat training for a big event. What I mean by that is you need to train the body, the mind and the spirit to win. Let’s face it, finding the right job is a contest. It is also very stressful and will take your best effort to be successful. You can’t give that best effort if you are neglecting yourself.
Getting someone to choose you can be emotionally and physically draining. That is why you should make sure you don’t neglect your physical and emotional well being. If you are already doing some form of daily exercise, make sure you keep it up. If not, there is no better time than now to start one. It doesn’t need to be training for a marathon or American Ninja, just a regular walking routine will suffice. Just something to keep you healthy and work off some of the stress.
You also need to work on your mental health. Hang out with positive and upbeat people. Turn off the news. Read or listen to material with a positive message. And don’t neglect the spiritual part either. Go to church, synagogue, mosque, temple. Join a men’s/women’s group. Check your community for support groups that help job seekers.
Train to win. physically, mentally and spiritually and you increase your chances of achieving success.
